Have you done the usual things, such as Repair Disk Permissions, and seen if there are any updates to Word that you should install?

Our computers came with MS Office preloaded, so most of us use MS Word. (The university upgrades us about every 4 years.) The version I now have is MacWord X. I am having problems with its crashing suddenly and without warning. Until we moved to OS X I had kept using Word 5.1a, just to avoid the bloatware, but I had to upgrade with these computers. Printing is one thing I haven't had a problem with. I hate to say "reinstall," since that isn't' something Mac users have to do but once in a blue moon, but it might be worthwhile.

I've discovered that you do have to be careful when you use something else. Some of the computers on campus (and some that students have, even though they are supposed to use the MS Office Suite for compatibility) have a word processing program that shows up on my computer with a blank icon and either can't be opened or crashes me. A bit awkward since I require that assignments be turned in attached to email so I can keep an electronic copy.
