Please forgive me I didn't understand when you said "define two instruments with the sam patch", now I realize you meant the "same" patch. I was scratching my head trying to figure out which is the "sam" patch, believe me this is not meant to be a joke.

It is normal if you have both the right and left hand staves defined as the same instrument. In an instance, such as 8va and loco, where you want independence between the hands, define two instuments with the sam patch (perhaps named right hand and left hand), and assign each staff a different instrument.
