If you're sharing your files with other list members, I certainly
would have no objections. If you're sending them to a friend who also
uses Finale and needs the help, and is not a list subscriber, I'd
also not have any objection.

On the other hand, if you put up a web page and reposted them all so
that everyone in world could see them, I'd have a problem with it.

The differences are in:

1. how many people you're distributing them to, AND

2. whether you're distribution is public or private.

The objection was not to lurkers.

It was to people who never contribute anything to the list who
complain about what the active participants have chosen to talk
about.

If you don't like the current threads, start one of your own. If you
haven't any topics worthy of pursuit to introduce, then the threads
you're not interested in aren't really soaking up any of your oxygen,
now, are they?

I think you're absolutely mistaken in bringing this connotation to
the word. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lurker for a pretty
exhaustive rundown of the history of the term.

I have never participated in chat rooms, but I've seen the term used
plenty of times, on mailing lists and in Usenet groups (which are not
chat rooms).
