I'm a little late on this one. Good thing that opensubscriber archive is up, so I can read the previous posts (shsu.edu is down at the moment)!

I was curious about the issue Andrew had, so a few days ago I installed Flash 7, but didn't see any problems... until tonight, when repairing permissions showed that all of the Flash files in the / Library/Internet Plug-ins folder had the wrong ownership. I repaired the permissions and all is fine, although the Flash 7 files show the owner as system, but the Flash 8 beta (and other files in this folder) are owned by user (me).

I don't see this very often, but I presume the installer is flawed to start with, which isn't a good thing. (We're all too aware of that today!) Perhaps you might check that folder to see what's there. Are there Flash files already in there?

I don't know what else this discovery means, if anything. Other more knowledgeable people could try to come up with ideas, hopefully.

In any case, did you try the Flash 8 beta?

Rich
