Well, I'll just quote a passage from the Fonts.pdf file in the Finale
2005 Help files, pp.37-38.  On the one hand it's great they support
Unicode I suppose, but all I know is that the Opus font worked fine
before Finale 2004 OS X.

Your info re the Finale Fonts pdf helped and I chased up some of the other stuff on Unicode. My problem with weird keyboard mappings in third party fonts (even though Sibelius 4 new Opus font is also OSX savvy) in Finale 2k4/5 and OSX 10.3.8 still has me stumped.

The info in the Finale Font pdf regarding the old Finale Key Map file in OS9 (still available in FinMac2k2) sounds very much like the problem I'm getting with Opus/Crescendo using the combo keyboard option/shift keys+characters to access the symbols I'm after  BUT I'm in OSX. I even checked out my Classic Control Panel: Keyboard but the Finale Key Map is not present (I suppose removed by OSX and handled by the International/Keyboard inputs menu etc:

To access special musical symbols
In order to access some special symbols in Finale's Maestro music font, follow this procedure. (If
you don't take these steps, you may find yourself unable to produce certain Finale symbols-such
as N or ¬ -when you type the appropriate keys on your keyboard.)
These instructions assume, by the way, that you installed Finale according to the instructions at
the beginning of the Installations and Tutorials manual. Specifically, it assumes that the file called
Finale Key Map has been copied into your System file.
* Choose Control Panels from the Apple Menu. The Control Panels window appears.
* Double-click Keyboard. The Keyboard control panel appears.
* Select Finale Key Map, and close the window.
(The affected symbols are, with the option key pressed, i and n; with the option and shift keys
pressed, e, g, i, m, n, r, u, x, z, \, and `.)
