AU (Audio Units) is a DAW plug-in format Apple created starting with
OSX. They wanted this for Garageband, which needed to be inter-
exchangeable with Logic. This doesn't limit to sample player such as
GPO. On the other hand, AU Playback in Finale context is for sample
player such as GOP and other NI products using AU format.

GPO Studio was using the other standard plug-in format, VSTi, which is a
cross-platform virtual instrument plug-in format instantiated within a
plug-in host shell, GPO Studio. NI is basically a Windows centric
company so it has been puzzled me why they went extra mile to make
Finale AU compatible even though they load standard AU then disable them.

This has been a big problem to me. I have tons of plug-ins. Since
every single DAW hosts I use supports AU but not always VST, removing
other AU plug-ins only to prevent from Finale to crash is very
inconvenient. If Finale2006 instantiated VST exclusively, I had no
problem deleting every single VST stuff out of my machines to keep
Finale happy.
