File | extract parts.
CTRL-click the staff names in the list on the left to (de)select them
individually. Use the list on the right side ONLY to extract a complete
group; so you won't need that.
In the group attributes dialog box, at the bottom, there is an option to
show the bracket/brace even if the group has only one visible staff. You
may want to use that to visualize the groups like they are in the
conductor score.
