This is not the case in WinFin2003 -- the input is simply buffered by
the OS (I presume) until the Finale process has time to read from the
buffers outside Finale that feed it the data from the MIDI and QWERTY
keyboards.

I don't know about that, but the principle behind any backup routine
is that you never overwrite the previous backup until you know that
the current backup has succeeded. That means that if you have a 15-
minute autosave interval, you could, potentially, lose just under 15
minutes of work (assuming that Finale crashed for some reason during
the autosave operation), but never any more than that.

I would assume that autosave works by saving to a temporary file,
then deleting the previous autosave file and renaming the new one to
the name of the autosave file (on WinFin, it's called
YourFileName.ASV). So, if Finale crashed at any point between the
start of the autosave operation and the renaming of the file, you
could lose that autosaved work.

But that's no different than if Finale crashed just *before* an
autosave, so the actually difference in maximum work lost is seconds
at most.
