The Autosave (and manual save) time is indeed the biggest slowdown issue with large files. (This is much improved in Fin2006.) All the other slowdowns are relatively painless, at least in my experience.

Again, I would recommend that Andrew at least start with a single score. _If_ he starts getting bogged down with the size of the file, he can split it up -- but there's no reason to split it up preemptively.

I also agree that if he splits the scores up, the thing to do is join all of the score files before extracting parts -- this will save time and frustration in the long run (although actually merging the scores will be long and painful, even with Mass Copy).
