Not sure I know what you mean by "any kind of bind score". Combs are noisy, plastic combs are _very noisy_, metal coils are very silent (unless they are too small for the number of pages), stapled parts are silent if they are folded over a few times before use, VPC is silent.

What else is there?

Dear Johannes,

The plastic coils that are now available at places like Kinkos. They are as good as, or maybe better than, metal coils (they don't get twisted and bent). Someone posted a URL for a $300 machine for punching holes for these bindings a day or so ago, and Darcy (and I) want one. I will see if I can get my music department to order one.

If there are going to be many changes made after a score is assembled, the comb bindings make that easier, but that advantage is offset by the noise, friction and flimsiness of that method. The plastic coils can be taken out and replaced for changing pages after completing a score, but it's not easy or quick. Still, it's my favorite binding method.

Just be aware that plastic combs are a pretty noisy business, and that they are completely unacceptable for any recording situation.

Interesting.
Because, in my experiences, any kind of bind score would make noise in
recording session so I take them apart :-)
