You're right about the neither fish nor fowl part. But The Baroque Beatles Book is like the songs of Tom Lehrer. The more you know about music, the funnier they are. For instance, using the melody to "I'll Cry Instead" in a movement titled "Rejouissance." And the Quodlibet is absolutely priceless, as is the tenor aria "When I was younger," using the words AND music of "Help!" I just love it.
