Well, I wasn't talking about the bowings in the Brandenburgs, which 
I've never actually looked at (I have a facsimile of the autograph, 
so I could easily do so, just haven't looked at it). I was 
specifically addressing the bowings in the 3 gamba sonatas, which are 
pretty non-idiomatic in terms of all the other gamba repertory I know 
anything about.

But, again, I don't know what the origin the bowings in Dreyfus's 
Henle "urtext" edition are. I'm sure he tells us in the notes, and I 
know I've read them -- I just don't remember the details and don't 
have it at hand to check.
