Hi all,
I hesitate to jump in with bug info that I have been unable to
document throughly, but there have been a couple of things that have
happened recently in FinMac 2006.
Even though auto-save has had a welcome speed increase, if it
interrupts a Mass Edit process, the program freezes, and you are
cooked. If anyone knows a way out of this kind of freeze, I'd like
to know about it. So far, I have had to resort to a force quit and
reverting to the last auto-save.
I have also had crashes (twice) during playback of fairly simple
files - piano/vocal arrangements of about 80 measures, with fairly
complex piano parts. I can't identify when these crashes occur, but
it has happened twice now, and I am wary and suspicious.
I rarely have many files open at once, so the vile file overwrite has
yet to bite me.
Wish I know more about what makes the playback crash occur. (GPO,
Steinway lite and a clarinet substituting for the vocal line.)

2k6.
Has anyone tracked down a proceedure that can reproduce the bug?
No, unfortunately, the razzen-frazzen thing just swoops in
unexpectedly, overwrites a file (with or without notice) and then
is gone.
It happens when multiple files are open.
It has happened to me when I have extracted/opened parts, then
opened ANOTHER Finale file while all my parts and score are still
open. So far this is the way to get it in my case, but I can't make
it happen again, even starting with the same file and going through
everything again.
For a while, it was thought to happen when a text block is open,
but that apparently turned out to be another, different bug
involving text blocks getting overwritten, not the entire file.
In all cases with me, but not with everyone, it happened when I was
reworking a score created in a previous version of Finale.
There seems to be some related bug reported by some (and I saw it
once) where a file APPEARS to have different contents than the
title bar, but redrawing or changing from page to scroll view
corrects it. Maybe saving before re-drawing causes the apparent
contents to overwrite the correct contents; I don't know.
Apparently if you can find your last auto-saved backup file BEFORE
auto-save overwrites it again, you can recover the file and thus
avoid re-entering the whole darn thing again.
In my case, it has been followed by Finale bugging out in some way
(unexpected behaviour like slowdown, keys stopping working, partial
page rewrites, inability to scroll, or complete freeze
necessitating a force-quit of Finale.)
Any other things that happen consistently, victims of the Bug?
