Hi, collected wisdom, especially those of the francophone persuasion,

I have to divide some lyrics in French into syllables, and I can't find a reference. My Petit Robert tells me in the introduction that the subject is of little interest (not to me!), except to say that separately-sounded consonants should be divided (ac-teur) while elided ones should not (a-près). This doesn't help me much with words like èglise (é-glise or ég-lise, or even three syllables é-gli-se?) or subsistant (sub-sis-tant or sub-si-stant?) when I am unsure of the exact pronunciation in an international context anyway (my French is definitely street quality, besides being Canadian-tinged-with-anglo.)

Other words I am hung up on:

Oublier
s'efforcer
sociale in two syllables and also into three syllables in another passage

Any ideas? Online references have turned up no mentions that I can find (perhaps I am not searching on the correct terms?)

Thanks in advance.

Christopher
