Okay, so I've got my custom expressions made, and I'm trying to place
them, but I get these odd things. I have two expressions, one for
pizz. and one for arco. Both are vertical eps files, Finale
understands them fine (as far as I know). I have them set up as
note-attached shapes, they are centered, 0,0. The note placement is
horizontally center of all noteheads and vertically below the staff
baseline. When I place them, they position about an inch above the
staff and about an inch to the right of the notehead. I don't have any
other modifications to the placement that I know of, why does this
happen? Or more importantly, how can I solve the problem.
Secondly, since this is for a stupid left-hand pizzicato thing, I
wanted to make the first measure so that all of these expressions show
up, but after that, make them so they don't print, but I can still use
them for playback. I tried simply duplicating the expression and
selecting the "screen only-do not print" option, but when I place the
expression, the previous copy (the only that is set to print)
disappears and my postscript preview confirms this.
It sounds to me like the lower-left-hand corner of the image is where
the handle attaches. All your placement points are relative to the
handle.
If you can move the handle (I can't recall having done this before)
then get it to a place where you want the note to be.
If you can't move the handle (more likely) then you should enter a
handle displacement value of about an inch (negative in both boxes) to
make sure that the expression is positioned an inch or so closer on
both axes. You will be grabbing it from then on by the handle about an
inch down and to the left of where you expect it to be.
Could you possibly crop the image so that it takes up less real estate?
That might make the handle closer.
Hope this helps. I'm just faking it.
