Roll symbols can be either tremolo strokes or a squiggly horizontal line. If tremolo strokes are used, they are normal articulations and will avoid collision if the appropriate music spacing option is checked. If squiggly lines are used, they should be put in, like trills, as smart shapes, which will adjust their length automatically with the note spacing and thereby avoid collisions 99% of the time.
