Looks like this bug triggers from a variety of actions and with some
different results. I thought I should weigh in on some of the questions you
posed to Darcy.

I went back and looked closely at the damage to my file and discovered that:
1. Every staff in my file was affected to some degree.
2. Most Layer 1 entries were deleted
3. Most Layer 2-4 entries were intact
4. All measure attached smart shapes, score expressions and staff styles
I checked were kept

The file size was smaller - went from 160KB to 136KB. I also checked the
file integrity of the affected file and came up with the following:
"This file may be missing a few notes or rests. We suggest you proofread
the document. You may find the Check Durations plug-in helpful in
determining if any measures are not complete."
LOL! (I didn't bother to run the Check Durations plug-in.)
The summary of the detailed report was:
221 Unused Entries
1253 Orphaned Entry Details
16 Repaired Entries
544 Repaired Frames
0 Missing Measures Replaced
0 Repaired Staff Optimization Lists
0 Unnecessary Measure Expressions Removed
0 Cross-linked Mid-Measure Clefs Repaired
And a listing of hundreds of missing entries and the measures in which they
couldn't be found.
BTW, when working with the file integrity report I couldn't copy and paste
any of that information as the report suggested, and 2006 kept quitting if I
left the report open for a while. Guess I'll send that in to MM.
I have the damaged file if anyone wants to look at it. I could also send
the file I salvaged from backup for sake of comparison.
