I happens on Mac 2006 too. In my case, the slur stayed
in Layer 1, but there were notes in Layer 2 in the 2nd
measure of the slur. The slur in the first system will
reappear if I select the slur in the second system and
nudge it up. But as soon as I redraw the screen, the
slur in system 1 disappears again.
The workaround is to create two slurs. One going to
the end of the staff on system 1, and another from the
beginning of the staff on system 2. It's a pain.
