But layers do not necessarily indicate voices -- they have no inherent musical meaning at all.
Setting aside how one feels on the general debate about when to use layers and when to use voices -- and I can certainly see that not everyone in the musical universe does things the same as David and I do -- let's just consider the practical problem of getting a slur to show up where you want it. If this bug bites, isn't the simple solution to just swap layers in the measure where the slur ends? If, as you say, the layers have no inherent musical meaning, then why do you care if it's in 1 or 2?
I'm not trying to proselytize anyone into a different way of engraving. I'm just saying that some have complained about this like it's a big pain in the butt and you have to draw duplicate slurs or something awkward like that, and I just don't see it. Why can't you just swap layers instead?
