Well, what module gave the error? Finale.exe? A DLL?

Have you completely uninstalled, and re-installed?

What other software is running? Could some of it be interfering? Have
you tried launching with all other running processes shut down?

These things are *not* easy to troubleshoot, especially in the
absence of documentation on the software environment.

My bet, though, is that it's most likely a video driver conflict.
This can be tested by reverting to a plain vanilla driver, or by
restarting in SAFE MODE. If Finale runs OK in Safe Mode, then you
know it's a problem with something that is loaded during normal
operation (and Safe Mode uses a plain vanilla VGA driver for video).

Restarting in Safe Mode is not something that can be explained
generically for all versions of Windows, as MS has introduced
variations in the process with WinXP. Restarting and hitting F8 as
soon as the BIOS finishes initializing should get you the boot menu
with safe mode as one of the choices. However, WinXP is a different
animal and has a different set of menus than previous versions of
Windows.
