[Sorry to have potentially sent this to you twice but I haven't received
anything from the Finale mail list in almost 24 hours and did want at least
for you to get my thank you.]

I'll have to try #1 out later as I've moved on to a chart that needs to
swing with even eighths.  :-)

I'm not sure I see how to implement anything like what you're talking about
in the staff styles dialog box for the answer to #2.  Maybe someone else can
help with that one?
