That's an interesting notion. If something is more difficult to understand it "should therefore be avoided".
What if they were publishing a physics textbook? Would they say, "Differential equations make physics harder to understand and their use should therefore be avoided"?
In other words, "This program doesn't do everything, but that's only a problem if you're doing things we don't like".
This paraphrase is actually much less offensive. Nothing wrong with declining to support things that don't interest you.
