In preparing modern editions of Hassler motets (or any other early music), it would be helpful to notate the original clefs with the voice parts at the beginning margin of each staff, just ahead of the permanent clefs. How do you do that? Kevin Riehle
The way I do this is have the first bar numbered as zero, and have the original clef shown in this bar, and the new clef in 'bar one'. I'd normally recommend showing the first two or three notes (or rests) of the original part, to indicate original notation - not least to show if note durations have been reduced or not. To do this, I use a staff style with independent time signatures for this bar, changing them to whatever I want to fit in. On the other hand, you may want to have nothing other than the clefs, in which case use a staff style to hide the notes (or rests) that fill this bar. And obviously you'll need to change settings to show or hide various items in this bar and in the first bar proper.
