Well, by the sound of what you are saying about the project you should be paid loads. 17" displays are pretty cheap, and I saw a 19" LCD for 299.- Euros at Aldi the other day, if I remember correctly. Should have got one myself...
However, I also work on my 14" iBook, and although I rarely do very large scores, with the help of staff sets it is possible, though not always particularly easy.
Then, I have never layed out a score on A2, that may well be a little tricky on my screen...
