Of course, this is a throughly stupid format. Two scores open click
one to adjust a note and thirty instruments load. Click the other and 6
load. Who could this genius be and how do they earn a living at it? --
that part is genius.
The upshot ( I gather) is turn the Native instrument thingy off ----but
what if you want to hear what Bb sounds like on occasion?
Thankfully only one of my scores is in 2006 format! No others will
be..ever.

I don't think it's an option -- I think it was a change in the
default behavior in 2006b. Though I haven't done much with GPO lately
and won't swear to that.
That's where I saw it -- in the "What's New in 2006b" -- Finale's now
supposed to load the patches when you click PLAY and then to unload
them when playback ends.
It's not an option, but rather a part of how the program operates now,
as Aaron says.
