Not to drag this out any further, but you've misunderstood my recommendation. "Ignoring things" would mean responding to an insulting post as if no insult had been delivered. That is not what I am recommending. An insulting post should meet with a dead silence, as if it had never even reached the list. That way, boors will eventually realize that if they have anything serious to discuss, they will not be able to initiate or sustain any kind of dialog unless they do so in polite language--nor will they be able to get their jollies from having people blow up in response to their verbal bombs.
