Again, my string quartets, clarinet choir arrangements etc. go almost entirely to libraries, not performers. An aggravation and a pity, but what ya gonna do? Most of my sales to individuals are of keyboard solos, accompanied solos for melody instruments, and songs.
At many universities, the library is buying chamber music *for* the performers. After all, we're able to expand the institution's holdings in our own area of expertise and have music available for our students -- all on someone else's budget!
A more sinister factor, in my opinion, is the lack of amateur chamber music "out there." I have had very few opportunities to share music with a group of friends in a living room...unless it was a rehearsal for a wedding gig. I'd love to see more chamber music sales -- and experiences -- for performers.
