Sibelius claims it is. I think what has to be done is to save the Finale files in ~.etf format. Finale files stored in ~.mus format are not readable by S~, as I recall.

Earlier versions of Sibelius would read both formats but ETF works better; .mus files tend to have errors that prevent good importation. If one has a copy of Finale to correct them in, they can usualy be fixed. Sib 3 & 4 really prefer ETF. I have imported Finale files from 2005 but 2006 only works with Music XML

I wonder if you might have a time problem, as well with some of these. I don't remember when Sibelius 2 was released, but I think it corresponded with Finale 2001 or 2002, so it is possible if your earliest files are 2003, that your friend may not be able to open them with Sibelius.

Sibelius 3 replaced 2 in about 2004 so the Finale 2003 format should work well for this task. The 2004 might also work. Sibelius tends to upgrade on about a 2 year cycle with incremental upgrades in between.
