Upgrading memory is as easy as it has always been since the 
widespread adoption of SIMMs.

Crucial.com has a memory configurator that lists all major makes and 
models of computers and tells you exactly what to buy.

But, again, it depends on the number of available slots and what you 
have installed already. To max out your RAM, you'd probably have to 
discard your existing memory modules. But RAM is so incredibly cheap 
these days that this is not much of an issue.

It's much easier to buy RAM nowadays that all the suppliers of it 
have configurators that know what RAM to buy so you don't have to 
search through the manuals and read the technical specs.
