This is one of both the weaknesses and great strengths of Finale -- it
can't do some things that ought to be possible in a notation program,
BUT the great strength is in the fact that usually there are workarounds
such as tech support showed in this case, so that while some things
might not be easy, most of them are possible.
And I wonder whether, during development meetings, certain things get
passed over for improvement or inclusion simply because they are
currently possible with existing workarounds. So the strength of Finale
which allows workarounds for many situations may also mean that those
problems will never get solved.
It would be great fun to be a fly on the wall (or have a hidden
recorder) to hear what sort of things are discussed and the reasoning
behind the decisions on what gets repaired, what gets improved, what
gets included and what gets omitted or passed over.
