I find myself in complete agreement with David Fenton on this point. I should
add that breaking backwards comptibility is great for developers. Nothing felt
so liberating in the development cycle of my plugins as the three steps of A)
abandoning 68K support, B) abandoning Classic support, and C) abandoning CFM
format (OS9/OSX dual-compatibility). The next abandonment will be PPC support
in a few years.

So what's the point? The point is for Win I've never had to make any such
decisions. Not only do incredibly old versions of WinMac run on new machines,
but new Win version of my plugins run on incredibly old machines. My Win
plugins are compatible with Fin2000, which means they can run on Win95
machines. Any new versions of my Mac plugins will require OSX.
