I searched in the manual but could not find a clue.

I have two staves:

in the first one there is music both in level 1 than level 2;
in the second one there is music only in level 1

Can I copy only level 2 of staff 1 into level 2 of staff 2 without
deleting its level 1?

I ask this because I have to modify a long score where this happens
often.
Hope to have explained clearly.

Thank you

What you are asking about is "layers" not "levels" in case you want to
look it up in the manual.

In the Options menu is the option to "show active layer only" select
this and then select layer 2 and you will be able to copy from layer 2
in one staff and paste it into layer 2 of a different staff without
deleting any layer 1 material. After you've done all such copying, then
go back to the Options menu and uncheck "show active layer only." The
windows shortcut is shift-alt-s to toggle the state of that option.

It is very helpful, not just for your situation, but also for entering
articulations and note-attached expressions, I find.

Thank you, I used "level" instead of "layer" traducing from "livello" in
Finale italian translation.

I found an error in the Italian translation of the manual when it says to
select the layer from the "view" menu and not from the "options" menu as you
said.
Thanks for pointing it out.

It used to be in the View menu, but since it is useful for a lot more than simple viewing, MakeMusic decided to move it to the Options menu. But since it refers to "show" I still think it should either be in the View menu, or be duplicated, since it's most obvious function is to change how we view the music. Same with "Display in concert pitch."

I don't think anything labeled "display" should be in a menu other than "view." Options for other tools are under their respective menus, so it seems sensible to expect that options concerning how we view the music should be under the "view" menu. Either that, or they should be consistent and put all "options" under the "options" menu.

But then, who ever thought software designers could be consistent?

I'm glad you found what you needed! :-)
