Someone mentioned a while back, that it's better to place a dynamic mark (e.g."f") assigned to a specific note versus in the measure. But I'm curious what's the advantages or disadvantages of doing it this way? Is it because no matter what happens to the document when you resize it in layout mode, the dynamic mark is in the same exact spot?

This is just one of several advantages: The auto-placement is much better for note attached expressions, they can avoid a low note, and be placed accurately in relation to the note.

Playback is also more accurate.

Let me say, relative to this, that the thing to do in orchestral scores, where a dynamic may be attached to many or all staves, is to put them in as measure attached, then use TGTools/Modify/Expressions to change them to note-attached. You don't even have to go through the staff-assignment routine, because TGTools will, if you ask it, delete the dynamic from empty measures and move it away from rests.
