This is just the lull before the storm of Finale2007 (the first upgrade I will be passing by at first since I started using version 3.5) hits.
I will be curious to read the glowing reports of the wonderful new features -- some seem wonderful and some seem to be more automating of what we can already do, which may or may not prove to be time saving and more convenient.
I am intrigued by the "improved authorization" -- I've never had a problem with it in the past and so wonder what is improved about it.
I find their example of the "improved Human Playback" to be disingenuous -- we can hear an example without HP but also without the SmartMusic Soundfont, and then we can hear the same example with HP but also with the SmartMusic Soundfont. How are we supposed to tell what improvements are the result of simply using the SmartMusicSoundfont and what improvements are truly the work of HP? Maybe HP isn't all that improved (haven't they touted improved HP for each of the last few versions?) and so the examples don't sound all that different unless we change the playback device. Maybe it's fantastic, but we'll never know until we upgrade. Why didn't they use the same soundfont for both examples and make the only difference the use of HP or not?
There are a lot of items listed in their promo of the new version that seem very nice notation improvements, but given their recent history of upgrades which really offered very little in actual notation improvements, I'm not taking the plunge immediately on this version.
