On the Mac side there's a very useful utility called Cocktail www.macosxcocktail.com that cleans all the caches (internet too) as well as runs the cron scripts (daily/weekly/monthly maintenance) and repairs disk permissions. I'm sure that there must be something similar on the Windows side. Hope this helps.
