Your staff styles for cues must have "Hide Notes in Other Layers" checked. This restores the default whole-meas rest positions.
Thanks, that did it. I have no idea why the stock staff style in the default document is not set up this way.
For partial-meas cues, the best solution I can think of is to show both the cue and the corresponding full-sized rests in the same layer using V1/V2. In the part you will have to apply a staff style that hides the original rests.
Well, this cue does include a partial measure, but it works. I am not quite sure which problem I should expect, but I am certain it will catch me eventually.
For cues that coincide with notes in the actual part, I think you will probably find that it can't be done to your satisfaction.
I don't have to do any of those right now. However, wouldn't a combination of different staff styles, displaying other layers and not displaying them, do the trick as well? The main problem will be manual stem direction, which I believe is permanently linked, no?
