Aha, I know this one.
If you have already optimised, then allowing optimisation after the
fact does not change anything, even if you re-optimise.
You have to REMOVE optimisation, then set the group to allow
optimisation normally, THEN optimise. You can't do it out of order.
It has been this way for a few versions now. Drove me nuts for a
couple of hours one day a couple of years ago.
