I've had pretty good results on piano-vocal music using just the default settings. I still needed to do some minor tweaking, but it was still a great timesaver. I haven't tried it on anything more complicated.

BTW, has anyone had any success with the Vertical Collision Remover plugin in 2k7? I found it really doesn't help at all, and that I am faster doing this by hand. The results of the plugin are unpredictable and not good enough.

My results with this plugin have been unsuccessful so far. I can't find settings that work for me. When I have tried it, it has added more space than necessary, and I can't seem to refine the settings to get it to move staves and systems only as much as necessary and to keep the overall top to bottom staff distance the same (often necessary). I am still trying to figure it out, but the results have not been promising. Maybe it's just a question of choosing good settings, but I have yet to figure it out.
