Chuck,

I haven't found a way around your problem with the page numbers. Not until they give us special options for text blocks will we see a way around it -- when we create them we should be confronted with a choice: This Part Only, All Parts Only, Score Only, All Parts AND Score.

I haven't run into the problems you mention with the multimeasure rests, but I did find in my first project complete with linked parts that it was simply easier to extract the parts for final printing, but then one of the parts was 2 flutes on a single staff, which we always knew would be a problem.

I did find something extremely curious but I didn't have time to investigate further -- when trying to enter corrections, I couldn't get into Speedy Entry while editing a part. Which was a royal pain in the butt because I had a list of corrections which said "Flute 1, measure 15, change Db to Dnatural." It would have been so much easier to do that from the part and have the edit show up in the score. I may have been doing something, but it makes no sense to have linked parts if I can't edit the actual music in the parts and have it appear in the score.

Oh well, still tons to be learned!

Hi all,

First time printing Linked Parts.

Is there a better way to handle the page numbering discrepancy than the one I am now using - which is: The score has added "blank" pages (for the cover), and the page numbers are offset (by -2) in order to compensate for the blank pages and correspond correctly to the score. So far so good, but with linked parts, the second page of the part inherits the page offset, so it is numbered "0". So I hide the existing page number (the one linked to the score), and add a correct one in another text block - in each individual part view. Royal PITA.

Is there something I'm missing here in working method that would make this less clumsy? Maybe I could add another page number set in the score, one that would correspond to the parts, hide it in the score, and then click it to show in each part. I will try that on the next one I print. Still, this seems as if it ought to be made automatic. (If the parts can ignore the extra pages, why can't they also ignore the numbering adjustment that compensates for them?)

One other problem: If you have a long mm rest, say 31 measures, and then one measure with music, all on one staff line, you can use the measure tool to adjust the proportions, giving a big space to the 31 measures and a smaller space for the single measure. In an extracted part, this manual spacing will remain as the part is closed and reopened, but in a linked part, you have to look at the affected page and make sure the manual spacing is correct before printing the part. If this condition exists in multiple parts, that turns out to be another monumental drag. In a way, I can understand the difficulty of maintaining the manual adjustment that is made in the part view, since you are really moving things in the score, where the adjustment would be inappropriate. Still, it presents a considerable problem, since it requires careful examination of each part and possible adjustment before printing, and the adjustment will be lost, if you need to print the part again later.

Ideas?
