The mp3 contains three pieces for choir, without any tracks. Is it possible to extract just the middle piece and create a completely separate sound file with just that one choral selection on it?

Can't tell if you're on a Mac. If you're not, this may be useless information:

Open Quicktime and load the mp3 (File => Open File).

Move your mouse pointer over the bar that is in the middle of the player (the one the little time marker moves over as it plays).

In the lower left of that bar, you'll see two markers. click and hold on the right one, and move it to the approximate end of the middle section of the mp3 you're dealing with. Perhaps a bit past the end.

Move the other marker to the approximate beginning of the middle section. Perhaps a bit before the section.

Choose edit copy.

Open a new Quicktime window.

Select edit paste.

You should have your middle section as an isolated mp3 file. Unless, of course, you don't have quicktime pro and these edit features are limited to that version (which I use).

good luck.
