Depends on the generation, just like "Ann" sounds like "Ian" for some but not others. I grew up in New Jersey in the 1950s, and it was always "Grin-itch". The -en sound was often said as -in, making my name "Dinnis". And speaking of eggcorns (back to that off-topic topic), I read a piece in Salon two days ago where someone talked about "widdling down" the resolve of a country.
