Interesting. My French dictionary has "lingère" (= linen maid) but "lingerie" with no accent. Do I understand that there is one in French-Canadian spelling?

I stand corrected.

I would have mispronounced it before today (not unknown for me, as I was a relative latecomer to French), but it is actually pronounced more like "lihn-jheh-ree" or even two syllables "lihnjh-ree."
