I can confirm your missing or changed noteheads problem when printing
to certain laser printers under OSX. A couple of things:
(1) you will generally notice this problem more in longer (larger)
files of more than one page. If your only option is to print from
Acrobat Reader, you may have better luck printing only a single page
at a time. Or, use the PRINT AS GRAPHIC option in the advanced
options of Acrobat pro. Set this to 300 or 600 dpi. If you go this
graphics route, plan on printing taking awhile, since each page takes
a few minutes to render and print.
(2) this may be related to specific printer drivers which perhaps are
failing to properly render a file printed from Acrobat under OSX.
Download the most recent version of your laser printer's drivers.
When you PRINT PDF files created on your own OSX computer, use Apple
Preview. If you get a file created on another Apple OSX machine using
either Acrobat or Preview, print using Apple Preview, NOT Acrobat.
Acrobat on OSX appears to be currently incapable of printing or
creating PDF files which are 100% compatible itself or with other OSX
machines. Acrobat can print a file created in Windows without
problems, and you can create a PDF file with either Apple's PDF
creation or Acrobat Pro, and you can then PRINT this on a WINDOWS
machine using Acrobat Pro or Reader without issue.
