I don't know much of Windows driver architecture, but if it is like a
normal OS, the OS provides the API to link application and device via
driver.  If new software updates to better performance but your MIDI
interface's driver isn't an API compliant then you will have all kinds
of problems such as what you are experiencing.  Did you make sure your
MIDI interface driver is up to date?
