Don't worry. If the source was extraction compatible, you will be able to make disk image even when DVD Player is still open (but not playing, of course). I just tried it with the source which I know is compatible, and it copied fine even though DVD Player is still grabbing it. As many of us have been saying, your source isn't compatible.
