I tell you my personal anecdote: When I was in school I had a deal with a pianist/trombonist, that we would play two pieces together, one violin sonata where he played the piano, and the Rimsky-Korsakov Trombone concerto with me at the piano.

It ended being the only time I ever played the piano publically. It was a complete disaster for me, who had never played a piano reduction before, and whose piano skills were simply not good enough.

Well, the trombonist ended up being a singer and is doing pretty well...
