There's also a bias to composed, notated music in the historical 
record -- much "popular music" was non-notated, and since they had no 
recordings, it's completely lost. Without the use of the tune in 
sacred music by composers such as Josquin, would be even know that 
the "L'homme armé" tune existed? We might not.
