Many on this list use iKey. There was some disappointment about version 2, but I think the problems have been sorted out. (The list will correct me if I'm wrong.)
There is no smooth transition from OS9 to OSX with Quickeys. You can't migrate your macros over into the new system. Quickeys for OSX is much more difficult to program and use than the version for OS9.
You can try Quickeys for free for 30 days and see if it works for you. I'm getting around the memory leak problem by killing the "Quickeys Background Engine" by using Activity Monitor.
