Instead of using "Specify Current Lyric," I just double-click on a problematic lyric with the Selection Tool, and it automatically takes me to the proper Verse or Chorus number.

Often I've had the situation where I copy measures with lyrics in them to have the lyrics show up in mid-staff at their new location. I wind up

In Finale 2003, the program "helpfully" moves lyrics to the next higher number verse or chorus whenever you copy passages containing lyrics. I think this was to allow you to alter lyric baselines separately, but I found it to be a pain, as you do.

Don't delete the lyrics, just change "Specify Current Lyric" to one number higher (1 to 2, say) and you will be able to adjust the baselines for the copied lyrics.
