I used a custom two-line staff for the two congas -- twice the distance between lines than a normal staff. This allowed me to have five different pitch positions that still look like they belong to the top conga line -- the (invisible) line above the the, the space above the staff line, on the line, the space below the line, and the (invisible) line below the the staff line. I put in five descending eighths with gliss lines connecting the noteheads, and the direction: "gliss w/elbow pressure on drum."

The only thing I don't like about this notation is that the final notehead ends up below the staff line, when pitch-wise it's the same as a regular stroke (i.e., no elbow pressure). But also I wanted the noteheads to all be as close to the line as possible so it was clear we're talking about a technique executed on a single conga drum.

Cheers,

- Darcy

Darcy, did you ever settle on how to notate this?
